Analogue Horror in the palm of their hand…
In the late 90s, a mysterious website began circulating among friends seeking a paranormal experience from the glow of their computer screens. Of course, there were plenty of strange and eerie sites that claimed to offer such things… but there was something different about this one. It felt real. Its name… was Ghostbox.
The site itself was deceptively simple. A single button. When activated, it would listen to the world around you through your computer’s microphone or webcam, monitoring the acoustic field for sounds beyond human hearing. If it detected a spike in those hidden frequencies, believed by many to be the voice or presence of a spirit… the box would light up, and emit a chilling tone.
People believed it was real because it seemed to know things. It could communicate. It could answer.
Fast forward to today, and somehow, the website is still online. A ghost of its self, haunting the forgotten corners of the internet.
If you ask an audience member to take out their phone and go to this website, the Ghostbox falls under your complete control.
There’s nothing to download or install on your device or theirs, it truly lives on the web.
At first glance, it’s just a plain, outdated HTML page. But beneath the surface lies a powerful engine, with an intelligent auto-pairing system that means you never have to touch your participant’s phone. A manual pairing option exists, but you’ll rarely need it.
There are various ways of triggering the Ghostbox with your own phone, and if you have a Flic button, that can also be used as a remote.
Are you ready to bring analogue horror into the real world… and let the dead speak once more?
